Poalim Digital Bank

Poalim digital Bank smart branches was one of my most large scale and interesting projects I have managed. I controlled the whole processes from the starting point, where I took part in the brainstorming with the bank, the creative process, the pre and post production, worked with the development team to the final implementation on the site.

Some Background

I led one of the unique projects in the multimedia industry in Israel in the recent years: The digital branches of Bank Hapoalim. The branches had been crowned "paperless branches" where customers are invited to perform operations using a tablet and digital self-service stations, with the assistance of a small staff present at the branch.

As the head of the animation and interactive design studio at the time I was involved in the early stages of decision making together with the banking staff. I conceptually formulated together with the studio staff the nature of the various interactive and passive stations in the branch. I accompanied the design and creative team of the company, refined the new design and branding made for the branch in cooperation with the branding studio Baruch Naeh, according to which we made adjustments to all components of the project. I conveyed the requirements to the programming and interactive team at INHOUSE INTERACTIVE who worked with us on the project.

The Solution

Several interactive and passive stations were formulated, different for each branch. For each of the stations I managed the overall creative and design process, the unique user experience design required for interactive screens with unconventional resolutions embedded in the space, and all the animations produced for them. One of the challenges was to meet the accessibility needs that arose from the bank and make the various screens accessible to people with special needs without compromising the interactive experience.

At the children's table I did the game design for all stages of the games and worked together with INHOUSE INTERACTIVE to pinpoint the various behaviors and animations made in UNITY software.

The station included:

Poalim Explore

An interactive information station where customers could watch videos about various services offered by the bank. Customers were invited to explore various services by using a tablet which used as a remote for a huge wall screen, consist of 16 LFD screens, in which the various videos were displayed. The buttons were designed as sticky notes, and by pressing one of them the note folded into a paper plane and flew from the tablet towards the screen where it reopened into a note with the relevant content.

Poalim Store

An interactive touch wall consist of 6 LFD screens, displayed the main services of the bank. Choosing one of them presented an option for a short explanatory video, information about the service and QR code that customers could scan with their personal mobile device and reach the specific location on the bank's website for further actions.

Poalim Kids

An interactive game table with educational finance messages for children.

The application was designed to provide interest to the children of parents visiting the branch and to give parents peace of mind to focus on their visit to the branch.

Poalim Smart Table

An interactive information stand and simulator in which customers were invited to understand more about the options available to them at the bank regarding the provision of credit, savings and loans.

Poalim Info

A passive screen that gave information about the branch, operating hours, and an animated clock.

Power Wall

About 21 screen video wall was dedicated to promotional videos of the bank. (The content was done by Baruch Naeh team).

Special Outdoor Screens

Outside each branch, special transparent screens with video art were installed. Together with a unique digital signage with the digital bank logo animation, created an iconic and special façade that stood out on the street.

A little anecdote

Couple of days before Ramat Hachayal branch launch, a request arose from the bank to add an artistic touch to one of the external LED screens.

In a very crowded schedule of 3 days, I decided to take on the full mission. I built the creative, made the story board, filmed and animated the video.

In the video, a hand uses the screen as a digital canvas to create a pastoral reality while corresponding with elements from the digital worlds, using traditional hand gestures. For example, places clouds to create sky, or uses a screen brightness scale to turn a sunny day into a sunset time, and so on.
